History of the Company:

Four years ago, Andrea Miller, our director of nursing, wished to create a home care agency that met her earnest desire to provide outstanding home care in the Mid-Michigan region. Ms. Miller has been involved in the home care industry for over 15 years and believes that a home care agency should consistently deliver first-rate care by having experienced medical professionals assisting and directing care. Simply stated, this is her passion after being a local RN BSN for more than 20 years.

Ms. Miller approached her sister, Dr. Sue Maurer, for financial guidance. Doc Sue decided that the Lansing region certainly could use a private-duty home care agency well managed by experienced medical personnel. Thus, Care Connections was established in the spring of 2004 and subsequently won the Lansing Chamber of Commerce 2007 ATHENA Business Award! It is truly a family run business as Dolores Maurer, Andrea and Sue’s mom, gives a senior viewpoint of how to educate the public about Care Connections.

The result is a family-owned business that rises above many other home care agencies by supplying first rate in-home client care with nursing coverage 24/7. This coverage structure ensures that the client’s physical and mental well-being is maintained in a safe, secure environment.

Our Staff

Sue Maurer, MD ("Doc Sue" to her friends) is the owner of Care Connections. Dr. Maurer received her MD degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in 1986. Doc Sue" offers free talks around Mid-Michigan to targeted audiences on health topics ranging from, "Senior Safety in the Home", to "The Myths of Depression". She is happy to be part of a family-owned company that offers quality home care to those who want to live safely at home.

Andrea Miller, BSN RN Andrea Miller is our director of nursing. She earned her BSN RN degree from the School of Nursing at Michigan State University over 20 years ago. Andrea has been active in the home care industry for over 15 years. She was a Director in a CCRC where she supervised over 300 employees. Her genuine passion for quality home care helped in the creation of Care Connections' mission; "To deliver consistent, excellent home care to those clients in need." Andrea helps as a client coordinator, and provides a wide range of community support services that benefits both the client and the family being cared for.

Ms. Lorri Verlinde, L.P.N. Care Connections welcomes our LPN, Ms. Lorri Verlinde as a valuable, experienced clinician to our company! Lorri has 30 years nursing experience as a LPN in the Mid-Michigan region. Michigan born, she is a proud graduate of the Lansing Community College practical nursing program in 1980, and worked 10 years at Sparrow Hospital as an orthopedic nurse. She also enjoyed working as a nurse for 9 years in local long term care facilities.

Lorri broadened her experience in elder care further by working in the home care industry for over 4 years as an office manager, clinical intake coordinator, and scheduler of physician and home health aides for home visits. She also has volunteered her time working with high school students in helping them prepare to become certified nursing home assistants.

Lorri has spent over 20 years working with the elderly and finds this part of her work history rewarding. She feels that her new position at Care Connections "is working with the best of both worlds!" We are very happy and honored to have her as part of our staff.

Vicki Pierce, scheduler
Ms. Vickie Pierce has worked with Care Connections now for over 3 years. She had been in the home care industry for over 20 years, and is a wonderful addition to our office staff as an administrative assistant. As an experienced certified nursing assistant and office scheduler, Vickie knows all of our aides and clients, and will match the needs of both the family and the client to our best aides! She is knowledgeable, friendly, and truly wants to help those in need of care and comfort. She has also undertaken overnight call and is frequently available 24/7. This guarantees a very personal knowledge of our clients wants. Vickie will always take the time to listen to what our clients truly desire and give them the best care possible. She is married with grandchildren that fill her life with pleasure and the assurance that family is very important.
